Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Outakes ("Outakes," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and handles information when you use the Outakes mobile app, website, and related services (collectively, the "Services").

Information we collect

The information collected depends on how you use Outakes, the permissions you grant, and the features you choose. The following disclosure matches the data types presented for Outakes on its App Store product page.

Data linked to you

The following categories may be collected and linked to your identity, account, or user ID:

• Contact Info: name, email address, and phone number
• Contacts: contacts you choose to make available to Outakes
• User Content: photos or videos and other user content
• Identifiers: user ID
• Usage Data: product interaction

Data not linked to you

Diagnostics: crash data may be collected in a form that is not linked to your identity.

App Store data types and purposes

Outakes may collect the following nine App Store data types. “Linked” means the data may be associated with your identity. “Not linked” means the data is collected without being associated with your identity.

How we use information

We use collected information to provide and maintain the Services, create and secure accounts, enable profile and social features, help users connect, store and display memories and other content, respond to support requests, understand feature performance, perform analytics, diagnose crashes, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

Contacts, photos, and other permissions

Outakes accesses device contacts, photos, videos, or similar device resources only when you use a feature that requires them and grant the applicable permission. You can manage these permissions in your device settings. Limiting a permission may prevent the related feature from working.

Finding friends from your contacts

Outakes offers an optional feature that finds people you already know on Outakes. Before it reads anything, the app shows a disclosure explaining exactly what will happen, and you must agree to it. Nothing is read from your address book and nothing leaves your device unless you accept that disclosure and grant the iOS Contacts permission.

If you opt in, phone numbers from your address book are standardized and uploaded to our servers, where they are compared against the phone numbers of existing Outakes accounts. Only the accounts that match are returned to you, as friend suggestions.

Only phone numbers are uploaded. Names, email addresses, and other details from your address book are not uploaded. The numbers are used solely to perform this match and are discarded once it completes — we do not keep a copy of your address book. We do not sell or share these numbers, we do not use them for advertising or marketing, and we never send messages, emails, or invitations to anyone in your contacts.

You can withdraw your consent at any time in the app under Settings › Contacts, which immediately stops any further upload. You can also revoke the Contacts permission entirely in iOS Settings.

Inviting friends by text message

Outakes also lets you invite friends by text. This feature reads your contacts only on your device, to show you a list and prefill a message in your own Messages app. It uploads nothing to our servers, and no message is sent unless you send it yourself.

How we disclose information

Information may be visible to other users when you choose to share it through the Services. We may also provide information to service providers that help us operate Outakes, including providers of hosting, storage, authentication, analytics, crash diagnosis, communications, and customer support. These providers may process information only to perform services for us and subject to applicable safeguards. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the Services, or as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets.

Retention and account deletion

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain security and business records, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. You may request account deletion through the app where available or by contacting us. Some information may remain for a limited period in backups or where retention is legally required.

Your choices and rights

You may update certain account information in the app, control device permissions in iOS Settings, and request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Children's privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 13 to create an account or use Outakes. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take reasonable steps to delete it. A parent or guardian who believes a child under 13 has provided information to us should contact support@outakes.io.

Security and international processing

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Information may be processed in countries other than the country where you live, subject to applicable safeguards and law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Services or legal requirements change. We will post the updated policy here and revise the effective date. Where required, we will provide additional notice.
